Another Pillow

I made another pillow.

If you are new to my blog, I have a confession, or perhaps a plea for help...

I may need a pillow making intervention.

The pillows above are just some of the pillows I've made and then remade and may even have remade again over the past year.

This pillow, though, was for my husband.

 Really.

His grandpa worked for Pfister Hybrids his entire life.

When we came across this grain sack for $3, at a flea market, family history compelled us to buy it.

When I got it home, I ripped the seams of the sack apart and set about making another pillow...for my husband.

I used a pillow, I had previously made, as a guide for cutting.  Not wanting to waste a bit of this sack, I was able to use what was printed on the back of the sack for the envelope closure on the back of the pillow.

And, then there was piping. Piping draws me in, in ways I just cannot explain.  It's part of the pillow making addiction.

And just like that, another pillow was created...

 For my husband :)

I have a detailed tutorial on making pillows and piping if you have now been afflicted with the pillow making disease.

Be warned, it can become addicting.

  1. Wow I thought I was crazy with pillow making but you have definitely got me beat! I love that this one is nostalgic for your husband. :)

  2. I really do like pillows but haven't got the disease yet. I think you might have a talent for it though so it would be a shame to waste a talent....

Piping scares the living soul out of me.

  5. Awesome pillow! The history behind it makes it much more special. I love making pillows but not sure if I would call it an addiction. Out of all the pillows I've made I've never used piping... for some reason I find it intimidating! I'm going to check out your tutorial.. maybe it'll help me get over that fear. :P

  6. I've never used piping to make pillows before - and I too find it quite intimidating. When the kids go back to school, I've got some time to conquer these fears! You are such a sewing natural so this probably wasn't the case - but were you nervous to cut up the sack? Sometimes I am nervous to even cut into a piece of Joann Fabric for fear of me destroying it! What a great find - makes me want to hunt down a sack from my Grandpa's CO-OP mill for my Grandma :)

  7. It's a keeper! You will have to find other pillows to re-do in the future :)

  10. You are such a show-off!! Multiple Pillows? Quick pillows? Re-made pillows? Piping? Maybe you and I weren't friends when I had a major meltdown over making ONE pillow. It was the cause of the ongoing war between me and my sewing machine. Took me 3 weeks. Yours are all so gorgeous. Except for the bunny one...it's just too darn cute. Love the family history behind this one. Nice job and the piping really is cool. Guess who I'll be emailing next time I want to make a pillow?

  13. I love it! I have some grain sacks hanging in one of the grain bins...makes me think. I love your piping. Great job. Have you ever thought about taking your addiction to the next level and making them to sell? I bet you could open an Etsy shop and sell your pillows since you do such a great job on them!

  18. What a wonderful way to display something that represents his Grandpa. I love when you just happen to find something like this sack that means so much to your family - and for $3!! I'm sure your hubby gave you a big tight squeeze for this wonderful present! :)

  19. Aren't you a good wife!

I won't give you an intervention for the pillow thing if you won't give me an intervention for the excessive Goodwill shopping I do. We'll enable each other.
